* very few Australian men wear speedos as underwear (I've never seen one) * one group of sportsmen - rugby players - wear them because they can be tied tightly so as not to be torn off in a tackle * rugby is only widely played in two States on the east coast * many Australian men would have never seen a real jock strap * they haven't been worn here really since the 1970's and even then they were relatively rare * if you went to 1000 sports stores, you probably wouldn't find one * Australian men also moved out of conservative white briefs (y-fronts) in the 1970's, into coloured bikini briefs * in the 1980s, they began to follow American underwear trends * boxers and boxer briefs are predominant amongst young guys, with plain coloured briefs still dominant from perhaps 30+
